The Asylum II

We would first like to thank Mr W.E. Morrison Sr, who  collected
these photographs and documented the early  history of the asylum,
and our friends C. Grimes, B. Sebring for aiding us with further
research.    This investigation of the hospital was a joint effort of
P.C.P & the G.A.P.S team from Geneva, N.Y..
In 1828, a law was passed prohibiting the confinement of lunatics in
jails. Creation of this asylum for the chronic insane was passed into
law in 1865.  The site of the  old   state agricultural college(1860) was
chosen after it closed during the Civil War.   1869 saw the completion
of the main  building and the arrival of the first patient by steamboat.
Several men lead a deformed  woman down the gangplank; Mary Rote,
who had been chained for 10 years without a bed and without clothing
in a cell in the Columbia Co. Almshouse.
Port City Paranormal returned to the Asylum in March 2009.  Many
of the local folks came by to tell us their stories and the stories that
were told to them by their parents and grandparents who had worked
at the facility. Currently the asylum and it's grounds are owned and
operated bu the NYS Dept of Corrections. Outside the  "wire"some of
the buildings have continued to deteriorate but some are used for
training. We were able to investigate Grandview (the oldest building)
and Elliott Hall (1937).
  Currently  officers staying in the
dorm areas of Grandview and Elliott
hall frequently report ghostly
encounters and some  will not stay in
the buildings over night. Cell phones
ringing, keys repeatedly knocked to the
floor, whispering , door knobs turning,
screaming and black shadows have
been reported with each new training
team.
GRANDVIEW
We found no evidence of this spirit and noted the tunnel contained
grounded steam pipes causing a "fear cage" effect. A staff member related
a story where he always yells" Lucy, I"M Home" when entering to scare
the helpers!  During  documentation of the basement, I filmed a heavy door
that I just passed, swing open and then close.  We also heard boot steps
come down the stairway, but no one came through the door to join us!
We explored Grandview from it's vaulted
attic to the cavernous basement, setting up
on the second floor east wing, probably
the most active area of Grandview.
Activity began before the equipment could
be placed including  bangs, foot drags,
and boot steps on the attic floor. Part of
the team began setting up their cameras in
the basement, and  I  began to document
emf and video. We heard there was one
other team who had found the Spirit of
"LUCY" in a near by tunnel.
     We experienced many strange
events that night. While on the 1st
floor a team member felt a presents
come to and then pass through him. This
very unpleasant experience was
accompanied by nausea, dizziness and
feelings of confusion and dread.  This
same force seemed to want us out of
the room and as we were leaving, it felt
as if someone was pushing the door
closed almost trapping my fingers in the
jam. The intense sensations continued
to follow us down the hall leaving us
all questioning just what was we had
witnessed.
While  reviewing the recorder left in
our base area  we heard sounds of
rummaging through our equipment,
numerous bangs and more whispers.
High EMF readings through out the
building were unexplainable.

ELLIOTT HALL
While exploring the grounds before our vigils we spoke to the  female spirit
we contacted the year before at the Maples. We invited her to join us at
Grandview the next evening.  Not only did she  join us, we learned her name
was Hanna.
